Laughter...The Best Medicine

I don't know about y'all, but I've got some pretty funny friends.
Lately they've been posting things on Facebook and/or Instagram that at the very least make me chuckle if not out right laugh. Well who doesn't like to laugh? You've probably heard the old saying, "Laughter is the best medicine". Doctors have actually done research and proven these things to be benefits of laughter:

*lowers blood pressure
*reduces stress hormone levels
*works your abs
*improves cardiac health
*boost t-cells
*triggers the release of endorphins
*produces a general sense of well being

I thought today I'd share with you some of the things that tickled me or a few that made me perhaps even "snort laugh".

Hope you find something that brings a smile to your face and maybe even a chuckle.

How many of you mama's out there can relate?

Me EVERY DAY!!!

This right here was one of my favoritesπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

This is gross...but funny!

Mothers of teenage daughters, you know what I'm talking about!

That would make me 'Lil Pear'...not to be confused with 'Lil Pair'πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Anyone else?

Happy Tuesday friends!!!
Don't forget to laugh!

It's Been A Year?!?!

I realized yesterday it was my ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!!!

WOW!!!

I really can hardly believe it's already been a year and I now have 208 posts under my belt.
For over a year I talked about starting a blog and finally after Katie's consistent urging (and trying to figure out a name) I did it. You can read my first blog post here.

Thank you so much to each and every one of you have taken a few minutes out of your day to check in and see what I had to say, be it once, twice or everyday. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your support.

You know the saying you have to crawl before you can walk? Well I think that same saying can be applied to learning most new things and blogging is definitely no exception. There is so much to learn and I've only scratched the surface. I read all of these beautifully done blogs with gorgeous photography and wonder when I will ever get there? I've never considered myself a writer and photography is not one of my gifts or talents. It's easy to forget that each and every blogger started with just one post. I know for some it comes much easier than others and I fall into the later of the two. I don't have a great knowledge of all things computer and all the other things that go along with writing and growing a blog. Endless hours are spent trying to find interesting, informative, funny, engaging content.

Blogging is a community filled with a lot of sweet people who support each other and are willing to help you learn and mentor you and for that I'm so grateful. However, without YOU, the readers none of that matters. Thank you for commenting, engaging, encouraging and being a part of my day. The favorite part of my day. I love answering your comments and getting to know you.

When I started this I really didn't know what to expect. Some days I'll admit I wonder if I should throw in the towel and no sooner do I think that, I receive a new comment or follower and I then continue with my "baby steps".  These are the things that make me giddy.

So thank you for joining me on this journey and allowing me to share my life with you.

Friday Favorites #42

Hey Friday! Where ya' been hiding?
I don't know about y'all, but it's been a long week over here and I'm happy to see Friday.

Once again I'm linking up with ErikaNarci, and Andrea and sharing my favorites for the week.
~one~

I love opening my bible and finding a couple of different bookmarks the kids made me when they were little. They evoke such precious memories.
Helpful hint: I wish I had written the date on them so I would have know how old they were. One of the ones in my bible is laminated, and I wish this one was.

Sunday morning I put this picture on my Snapchat story❤️.

~two~

We love our Mexican food! When we lived in Richmond, VA there were TONS of great options when we had a hankering for it. When we moved to MN we found 2 Mexican restaurants and neither of them could hold a candle to our favs in VA.

When we found out we were moving to CA we thought "GREAT"...we'll have AWESOME choices for Mexican...WRONG!!! Here in Northern CA they have all these "taquerias" and none of them are very good. We have found one restaurant we do like and so we hit it up this week. I typically stick to the same thing but branched out and tried something different.
#prettygood

Here's the kicker...NOT ONE SINGLE Mexican restaurant has cheese dip/queso.
WHAT???? Yep, I'm not even kidding. I would never kid about something as serious as queso.
#truth

Chips and salsa for the win.

~three~

So y'all know I've declared my love for Halo Top ice cream.
They came out with a bunch of new flavors a couple of months ago and it's finally hit the freezer shelves at our stores.

We went on a quest this week looking for them and only found one...Red Velvet.
Well just let me tell you that it did not disappoint. It's our new favorite.

~four~

I sent this to Katie one day this week and love it.

I don't want to see her or any of her friends (or Benny) settle for less than they deserve.

~five~

In case you missed yesterdays post, I talked about some great ideas for Valentine's Day.
Click {here} to read more.
It's not too early to plant that seed with a few ideas of things you'd like.

~six~

My bargain for the week...I wanted some pretty plaid pillows for Christmas time to go on our new sofa. Seeing as how I've told y'all I don't like to pay full price I decided to wait til' after Christmas and this week my patience paid off.

I went into Pottery Barn when I was at the mall to look around (and specifically check the sale section). They had quite a few things on clearance and these adorable pillow covers were among them. I walked out with 2 for $30. I really would have loved square ones, but hey, I'll take these for sure. I looked to see if they are available online, but I didn't find them, so check your local Pottery Barn if you're interested.

Before you go you might want to check out these bloggers I'm linking up with and see what's on their lists as well.

Hope you have a great weekend!!!

What's Up Wednesday ~ January Edition

Happy hump day! We've made it half way to Friday and I have to say it's going pretty quickly this week.

It's time to do a monthly check in and see "What's Up".
Here's what you'll find out.
So here we go.

What we're eating this week...

Well I've been on a yogurt and berries kick.

And we seem to have fallen into the habit of having pancakes about once a week. Funny thing is we never have them for breakfast, only dinner.

We're going to have Fish Tacos one night.

And some kind of protein with Enchilada skillet rice

What I'm reminiscing about...

Rush starts for Katie this week and of course it makes me think about my time going through that and then pledging. My "sisters" are still some of my absolute dearest friends and part of "my tribe". I can't wait for Katie to have that same feeling.

What I'm loving...

Having eyelashes for the first time in my life. It's INCREDIBLE. I can actually remove my mascara and see them. These are the results I've had so far from Lash Boost and I can tell they are still getting even better.

Women who are starting out with decent lashes are having truly amazing transformations as well. Katie is using it and hoping she'll be able to give up mascara except for nights out, etc...

If you're sweetheart is asking you what you want for Valentine's Day, tell him Lash Boost and I'll take care of the rest. Just give him my website and he can order it or contact me for help.

What we've been up to...

Nothing exciting. Just getting back in the swing of things after the excitement of the holidays, kids home and family visiting.

What I'm dreading...

I can't really think of anything, so that's good.

What I'm working on...

Trying to figure out some interesting posts for Coast to Coast. If you have something you think I should write about, show, demonstrate, please let me know. I'm always open to suggestions. I'm currently working on a collaboration with one of my "sisters" who owns a darling children's boutique, so stay tuned for that.

What I'm excited about...

Well my numbers here in blog-land are increasing and that's just about one of the most exciting things ever for me. I call Kent and say I had X number of views today. WOOHOO!!! Thank you to everyone who's reading my little space and coming back. Without you I wouldn't have the excitement and challenge of trying to make this better.

What I'm watching/reading...

One Tree Hill!
Katie got me hooked on this over Christmas break and now I'm farther along in it than she is. I watch one episode everyday while I'm on the elliptical and then I usually end up watching at least one more in the afternoon.

We continue to love This Is Us. Funny thing is Katie said she watched a bunch of them on her flight back to school so now I think she might be binging on this once she ever has time to finish OTH.

What I'm listening to...

Nothing new.

What I'm wearing...

All the soft things I can find. It's been so rainy here and I just want to be comfy and cozy which calls for the softest tops it my closet.
Softest plaid shirt ever (on sale) // boots (on sale)

fuzzy sweatshirt (on sale) // jeans //  favorite booties (on sale)

What I'm doing this weekend...

Not a clue!

What I'm looking forward to next month...

❤️Valentine's Day!❤️

What else is new...

Kent finally got an iPhone so we started getting him all set up last night and playing with it and will continue that tonight. He's always had a Blackberry provided by every company he's worked for and this is the first time he's been able to have an iPhone. The kids and I have them so we are excited for him to now join the rest of us...or as Benny says, "welcome to 2007". Hahaha!!!

I sure hope your having a great week and life is calm for you right now like it seems to be for me.

Happy Wednesday friends!

Show & Tell Tuesday: Save or Splurge

It's the first Show and Tell Tuesday of 2017 hosted by Andrea and we are talking about what do you save on and what do splurge on..

How do you decide what things are worth spending a little more on and what things do you save on? Ask Kent on any day of the week and he will tell you that I can work a coupon

As a general rule I don't buy anything that's not on sale, it's just goes against my religion...figuratively, not literally.

Groceries:

I'm a huge sale shopper and stocker upper. Take groceries for instance. I keep my pantry very well stocked and do it by checking my Safeway app and watching for other sales and then stock up when things I know I'll eventually use go on sale. Nothing makes me more crazy than deciding at the last minute I want to make something and not having all the things I need or paying $2 for a cake mix that was on sale last week for $.99.

You will always find in my pantry these things I've bought ON SALE:
~ cake mixes
~ frosting
~ pasta
~ canned goods

And did you know you can freeze:
 ~ powdered sugar
~ brown sugar
~ flour
~ sugar
and even potato/tortilla/pita chips?

Yes, you can freeze chips. My friend Michele's mom let me in on this little secret many years ago.

Store brands vs. national brands. This one can be tricky and it's really just trial and error, but there are definitely quite a few store brand items I use without hesitation. (like powdered sugar, regular sugar and brown sugar)

I think what you are willing to save and splurge on will vary with the different stages of your life.

I find myself being willing to spend more on things now that in the past I wouldn't have bought.
shhh...don't tell KentπŸ˜‰.

Fashion:

I've mentioned before how I used to never shop at Nordstrom and honestly before I started this blog I could count on one hand the things I had purchased from them, but reading other blogs and learning more about their store I came to see that they actually have things on sale all the time and with such wonderful customer service it's an added bonus. I still try to only buy things that are on sale, but occasionally I do "splurge" and buy something not on sale.

Macy's is another retailer where you can almost always score a bargain. Every single day is a "sale" day and then you can usually add a coupon on top of it. #score

I'll "splurge" on a nice purse. I'd rather have one nice bag instead of 3 or 4 cheaper ones. (I'm too lazy to change them anyway)

Shoes are another area I'll spend more on, especially since I have a narrow foot and it's really a challenge to find shoes that fit well.

Home Decor:

I love to have a beautiful home (or at least it's beautiful in my eyes) and I love to shop for pretty things to go in it.

Would I love to go in to Pottery Barn and pick up any thing that catches my eye a buy it? YES.
 Do I? NO?

But if you shop TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Home Goods, Ross & Target you will likely find items for your home that you love at a much more reasonable price point. I still love it when I find a great deal at PB and it makes me love those items even more, but it takes a lot of time and luck to score those.

Skin care:

You had to know I was going to talk about splurging on good skin care.
Ladies, we have one face and we need to take care of it. This is a fairly new revelation to me, but as I began to see time rearing it's ugly head around my eyes and face in general I decided it was time to STOP IT.

That's when I started using Rodan & Fields which also led to becoming a consultant.
I love the products and what they have done and are doing to and for my face and skin. While it may seem like a lot to pay, if you look at the number of products you are purchasing here and there, individually, and add them up I bet you'd be surprised at what you are spending.

The Rodan + Fields regimens are multi-med therapy which means each step builds on the next. You get the right components in the right order to bring about the desired results. Each regimen will last a minimum of 2-3 months so when you do the math it's very affordable.

I'd love to help you get the best skin of your life.

Now for shopping in general. If you are a Target shopper here are a couple of tips.
Get the Cartwheel App. It provides additional savings throughout the store and often on things that are already on sale, so you can basically double or even triple stack your savings if you have to have a coupon for the item. You can look through it before you go in the store to see what's on sale and "add" it to your list. You can also scan items you are purchasing as you are putting them in your cart to see if they are on Cartwheel that day. (I typically just get all my stuff and then scan everything at once before going to the register) Since beginning to use this app in August of 2013, I have saved $472.24
#workacoupon #itoldyouicould

If you aren't already cruising the outer aisles and end caps when you are in Target looking for bargains, then give it a try. You can find some really good deals from time to time to add to your stock pile or the perfect thing you didn't even know you needed...LOL

Last but not least...
Have you heard of SHOPKICK?

It's another App. I had some younger friends who introduced me to it a couple of years ago.
You "open" the app when you walk into certain stores and then receive "kicks" (aka points). Once you accumulate enough points they can be redeemed for gift cards. You can also get points by scanning items in various stores. You should really check it out. I've already gotten a $25 gift card to TJ Maxx and I'm currently working towards a $250 Tory Burch gift card. That will make for an awesome SPLURGE!!!

I need 62,500 kicks and I currently have 25,239. It's going to take a while, but I'll get there. You can get kicks for inviting friends, so if you're interested in trying it out please feel free to use my referral link and help me get there even faster.

https://app.shopkick.com/r/bbE6l

Okey dokey friends...get out there and start saving that money.

It's like I tell Kent, "You've got to spend money, to save money"πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
(I'm not sure he's buying itπŸ˜‚)
