Friday Favorites #89

It's the first Friday Favorites of 2018. How many times this week did you accidentally write 2017 instead of 2018?

It wouldn't feel like Friday if I didn't do Friday Favorites so let's get to it and see what tickled my fancy this week.

I have a set of these measuring spoons and I love them. I'm not a fan of the ones that are all hooked together. I mean, those things are so cumbersome to use. I've been looking for another set for a while and struck gold in line at TJMaxx yesterday. Seriously, I was so excited by these silly spoons you wouldn't believe it.

Being at home with these two is always a favorite. We had such a great visit in Virginia last week.

Is your house "de-Christmased" yet? It's so funny how we are so excited to get out all of our Christmas decorations and the warm feeling they give our homes, but as soon as Christmas is over, for me anyway, I can't wait to reclaim my space and put it all away for another 11 months.

When we travel to places we've lived there's a list of things we want to eat. I'm sure we aren't alone on this one. If you are local to Richmond, VA and haven't found Westhampton Bakery on Patterson Avenue yet, GET OVER THERE! They have the BEST chocolate glazed donuts you will ever eat. My dad made sure we got some while we were there and boy-o-boy, they were worth every single stinkin' calorie. That poor naked one in the corner was for Benny...for some strange reason he also wanted a plain glazed donut. Whatever 😜

Guess what came in this week?! Yep, you guessed it. My new Barrington tote. It comes with this storage bag that has a draw string and could be used for multiple things. In case you missed it, you can read about how I won this bag I'd been wanting for over a year here.

Isn't it darling?

I hope you're ready to see this bag on repeat because it will definitely be moving to the front of the line.

The antics between these two is almost always fun. They haven't always been friends the way they are now and it makes this mama's heart so very happy to see that relationship has finally developed.

I'm sad to see Katie leave tomorrow, but I also remember being so happy to get back to "my life" and friends when I was here age. We will slip right back into our routine of just the two of us by dinner I'm sure...all the while talking about something funny she did while she was home.

Detox update

I've been starting my mornings off with this "detox" water lemon elixir. Why? Good question. Primarily, it aids in the waking up of the digestive system. I read an article that gave 5 benefits for starting your day with a cup of this:
1 - Eliminate waste - it wakes up the digestive track and gives it a jump start in the morning
2 - Eases digestion and helps eliminate bloating
3 - Prevent kidney stones
4 - Reduce pain and inflammation
5 - Promote weight loss

The drink I've been having is 8 oz. warm water, juice of one lemon, 1 T raw unfiltered ACV and Stevia to make it palatable.

I'm beginning to get a little more use to the taste. Even with the Stevia it's still super tart😝 and it will never be able to replace my coffee. I just wait a bit before having my first cup.

I made it through almost 2 full days of the detox, but when your college aged daughter is home and she's just not feeling it and wants food to "chew", you end things earlier than planned. No worries, though. I do feel like it helped me to get back on track from eating at will for 2 weeks.

Let's talk bone broth for a second. We went on a wild goose chase looking for the beef bones and finally found them at Whole Foods. I made the broth according to several recipes I'd researched. Tonight I'm making French Onion Soup with it. It is definitely thicker than a regular broth and has a much greasier feel. I've heard some people drink it. It's supposed to be really great for your gut health, but I don't know that I could drink it.

There ya' go friends. What are your thoughts on giving your body a break? Do you have healthy habits you try to incorporate into your daily routine? I'd love for you to share in the comments.

Have a wonderful weekend! I think it's cold everywhere in the country but here in California, so stay warm!

  1. We seriously are twins separated at birth, now living on two different coasts! I have been looking for new measuring spoons and haven't found any I like. I'm going to order the ones you have here because if you like them I'm sure I will too! Thanks girlie!
I am so excited about your Barrington Tote and I LOVE it!!! So beautiful and you can use it every single day! What an awesome tote and I love the pattern you picked.
Those chocolate glazed donuts look so good, even the plain one. I laugh because that's what my boys would do - how do they resist chocolate? Maybe that's why their hips and stomach are thinner than mine? LOL
We decided to bring Nolan back on Sunday because Collin has a robotics competition that got scheduled for tomorrow. I'm staying home and cooking some of Nolan's favorites to take back to school and then we'll hit the road early Sunday morning. Ugh, I hate saying goodbye. You're right though, they do enjoy getting back to their lives I just don't enjoy getting back to mine without him here!
Have a wonderful weekend my friend, it is cold here! 35 degrees at 9:30 this morning - crazy, right?

    1. It was so crazy how excited I was about those silly spoons. Oh the things that excite me. I have a set that are Martha Stewart I picked up at Macy's a couple of years ago and haven't been able to find them again. I hope you love yours when you get them. (and the colors are fun too😉) I wish I had one of those donuts to go with a cup of coffee right now. I just finished my detox water😣😂. I'm so happy you get to keep Nolan, one more day. We are taking the bug (another name for KT) to the airport in just a little while😭. We'll spend the rest of the day getting over our depression. We're going to do our bagel walk when we get home, so that will give us something to occupy us for a while. Enjoy the cold snap and layering up! Have a wonderful day cooking for your sweet boys. XOXO

    2. Had to come back and comment again because you know me...FULL OF ALL THE WORDS! Anyhow, the spoons came and I love them, Brian likes them too. And, we always called Nolan "Bug" when he was a baby. Sometimes I still do behind his back because he would seriously KILL me!

  4. I love those pictures of your kids goofing around. Haha! So fun that you got a Barrington tote! And I've been meaning to make bone broth... just waiting to get out of town to buy organic chicken. Small town problems. ;) Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Jenny! They were having a fun time. I love my tote!! Took it to the movies with a big water in it last night. I made bone broth with beef bones and then one with the bones from a rotisserie chicken (not organic, but oh well). I think the chicken was better. Good luck! I hope you can find what you're looking for. Happy Saturday! XO

  5. I've loved reading about your detox!! I am going to be bad until Monday and then I'm going to start on my goal of drinking more water and I'm def. not going to be hitting up the double stuff OREO's. :O I have been wanting a Barrington tote for awhile, I just know it would take me hours to decide on a color, pattern, etc. I REALLY love the leopard pattern you chose.... I can't wait to see you style it!

    1. I desperately need to drink more water too. I didn't drink it growing up and so it's so hard for me to get in that habit. My kids are both so good about drinking it. The Barrington totes come in so many cute patterns. There were several that interested me, but I was really drawn to this one. I'd love a collection, but geez, they are so expensive. Have a great weekend! XO

  6. Those donuts look amazing! I can't say much for eating foods from home since I only live about 15 minutes away from where I grew up but I definitely have favorite/ must have foods and restaurants to eat at when we visit and revisit favorite vacation spots.

  8. Snap! We de-Christmassed today too. Feels a bit empty but we didn't decorate too much this year. I'm excited cos I have a new system and bought see through storage crates yesterday. No more tatty cardboard boxes for me! the crates are looking so neat and will look quite stylish in the attic... Where no one will see them :-(. Happy weekend, x.

    1. It feels so good to get back to normal. I'm going to wait a few weeks and then add a few Valentine's touches. Storage crates are the BEST. I love having things organized. I just feel so much better. Have a wonderful weekend, sweet Mary! XO

  9. How funny, I just got that exact same set of measuring spoons at Wal-Mart this morning. I've been looking and looking for some separate ones and was thrilled to find these. Oh, my decor came down Christmas day as our celebration was over. Was so glad to have my house back. Happy weekend!

I'd like a donut too. Just finished my detox drink. I'm beginning to get use to it I think. I love my new bag. It's so fun! Have a gorgeous weekend my gorgeous friend! XO

    1. Yay for measuring spoon nerds. We are in good company, best I can tell. Good for you being back on My Fitness pal. I really should do that same thing. Are you a real stickler on measuring stuff? That's the part that drives me crazy. I guess I could just estimate. My new bag is so fun. I love it too! Enjoy your weekend Allie! XOXO

  12. First, those donuts! My greatest weakness right there. And just saying they are the best makes me justify a trip to Richmond soon :) However, my voice of reason (aka Husband) wouldn't allow it. And probably best! Second, my great grandmother always drank a shot of vinegar every day. I'm not sure what her reason was but she did. I'm not sure how I feel about detoxes but I'm on board with the bone broth. I also struggled finding my beef bones but friends have said they know someone with their own farm etc etc. I don't get that lucky :) I'm running around town searching for them too :) I'm going to try Whole Foods next because mine were itty bitty bones. I'm also going to try the instant pot next round.

  13. Hi Lisa,
What a darling bag! Love it! And you had me laughing about writing 2018! Last week I published a blog post accidentally as I put in Jan 1 2017 and i couldnt see why it has published?! It is starting to sink in. Looks like you had a great time at Christmas. I try and make some meals ahead on Sun ( lately with jasmine rice and chicken or tuna) and add veggies. It is simple then and i have a healthy meal for a few days without cooking everyday.
    Have a great day!
