What I Wore Thursday

Hey, hey, hey!!!! Well I went MIA for a day. I'm still hanging out in Nashville and took yesterday off from blogging. I've got a couple of outfits to share with you today that are easy pieces to throw on and made up of wardrobe basics you'll wear over and over.

jeans / shoes / scalloped cami / necklace

White jeans are always a great choice in spring and summer for almost any occasion. I recently found this adorable  scalloped cami at the J Crew Factory store and picked it up in black and ivory. It's lined so it's not too thin and it's the perfect layering piece. I added my favorite  denim jacket on top and statement necklace that is also from J Crew Factory. This denim jacket really is my favorite jean jacket. It's light weight and has stretch and is just all around comfortable.

This next outfit follows the same formula. Jeans + cami+ sweater = uniform.

My frayed hem jeans have quickly become a go to. Not only do I love the look of the unfinished hem but they are really comfortable. I love scallops and this cami is so sweet and feminine. I love special details like this on pieces of clothing. Give me a scallop, peplum, little ruffle or some other detail and I'm all puppy love eyes. The great thing about this cami is the versatility of being able to wear it with a sweater and jeans like I am here or pairing with pants or a skirt and blazer for work wear.

Off The Shoulder Trend

Shoulders, shoulders, everywhere.

You can't turn around without seeing some body wearing an off the shoulder top or dress. Have you noticed? Do you like it? Will you wear it? It's a trend that came in last year and appears to have staying power. You can make it as casual or dressy as you want and find a cute look for all occasions. 

Sometimes you just don't know where to start so I've rounded up a few that caught my eye and you might want to explore for yourself.

1 ~ I love this chiffon off the shoulder version and with a tie at the neck. It is so delicate and feminine looking. The soft pink color is sweet and the fabric is flowy.

2 ~ This one incorporates both the off the shoulder and bell sleeves that are ever so popular. It has ties at the shoulder so it would stay in place and has the most casual feel of all the ones here. It would be super cute with jeans or cut offs.

3 ~ These off the shoulder dresses are so cute and party perfect. They are begging to be worn to a spring or summer wedding.

4 ~ More bell sleeves and off the shoulder in a more polished option that can still be casual or lends itself to be dressed up for a night out.

5 ~ I think the lace texture and stitching on this darling top make is so versatile. Great with jeans but pair it with slacks or maybe a straight skirt and heels.

6 ~ A larger ruffle and straight silhouette make this dress more sleek and refined and a gorgeous option for a dressier occasion.

7 ~ Looking to add floral and flowy sleeves? Here's a perfect pick.

8 ~ This little cutie is available in gingham or crisp blue and white stripes. It's one of my favorites.

9 ~ Eyelet adds beautiful detail and makes this ruffled off the shoulder top perfect for pairing with jeans, cut off jean shorts or colored denim. Completely adorable.

Weekend Wrap Up - Nashville Edition

We've had a wonderful time this weekend visiting with the kiddos and lots of friends. I have quite a few pictures and they won't require much explanation.

The kids were in class Friday and working on school work so I took the opportunity to walk.

I walked over to the Parthenon and around the water. Spring is in full bloom and it was a beautiful way to start the day.

Kent and I had some time to kill before going to school to see the kids so we went to one of our favorite places...SATCO (San Antonio Taco Co.)

This is a place we went when I was in college in Nashville, and now my kids love to go there too. It's a fun atmosphere and we love the food.

And since you know you can't find queso ANYWHERE near where we live, we take every opportunity to enjoy it when we are in Nashville.

After lunch we headed over to school to meet up with the kids and I got to see my friend Laura. She's one of my "tribe".

Friday night our friends from Kentucky came over and we went to dinner then back to our friends house we stay with for dessert and dominos (and quite a few laughs)

This girl right here is just fitting right into our family. She's such a sweetie and makes Benny so happy, which makes me so happy.

Saturday afternoon we went to see Singarama.

Benny and Erin came with us. 

Could someone please tell me how we've gotten here so quickly to have these grown kids? I told someone at church yesterday that you just can't imagine it when you're living in the moment. It goes by so quickly.

Sunday afternoon Kent and I went for a walk and on our friends street is one of these darling "Little Free Libraries" where you can take a book and/or leave a book. Such a sweet idea. I've seen this concept of a few TV shows.

We walked up to "Love Circle" where there is a gorgeous view of the city.

At the top of the hill there is this huge building that is actually a house. Are you familiar with the country duo of Big and Rich? Well this is John Rich's house.

 I guess he's named it Mt. Richmore

I can also tell you that Benny is OFFICIALLY EMPLOYED and we are over the moon excited, beyond proud and thankful that he's already found a  job for after graduation. He's worked so hard for the past four years and deserves to be rewarded.

Friday Favorites #52

Good morning friends and happy Friday!

I'm sharing this Snapchat from one morning this week just because I like it. This is how I start everyday. With my coffee in hand, in the corner of the sofa and my computer is usually on my lap.

Today's edition of Friday favorites is going to be short and sweet. We got into Nashville last night about 9:30 and so by the time we got our rental car, drove to our friends and visited with them for a bit it was almost 1:00 AM before I started this. Of course my body thought it was just 11:00, so it really wasn't as bad as you'd think.

Yesterday when I got up and went downstairs there was a cute little box in the corner of the sofa where I like to sit. Naturally I knew where it came from, but Kent wasn't up yet so I waited for him before I opened it.

Last weekend we were at the mall and strolled through Pottery Barn where I spotted these adorable little bunny candle holders. Don't you think it's so cute? Well what do you know? The Easter Bunny came to our house early and brought me one. I love it and I love that he took note of it and went back to get me a sweet surprise.

Snapchats from this crazy girl and her friends. I can't wait to see them later today and then tomorrow in Singarama. That's why we came to Nashville. Singarama is a HUGE variety show/musical put on every year by the students. I was in it when I was in college and now Katie is too. So much fun!

I've been wanting a fancy "bundt" pan for a while and finally broke down and bought one a couple of weeks ago at Williams Sonoma. I love the design and it will make a beautiful cake.

Confession time...

I made one last week. It was in the oven, the timer was on, and my doorbell rang. It was my next door neighbor and her 3 adorable little girls. I went outside with them for a bit and when I came back in the timer was going off and I don't know for how long. This is what middle aged mama brain looks like. I took the cake out, let it cool slightly and tried to remove it with no luck. I let it cool all the way and still no luck. Insert all the sad face emoji's here. It had over baked and completely stuck to the pan. NOT A FAVORITE!

  

My beautiful bundt was now nothing "bundt" crumbs in the trash.

Whaaaa!!!!

Hopefully the next time I try it, I won't get distracted.

A friend of mine had this posted on Facebook this week and I couldn't agree more. It is so easy to judge ourselves based on what we see on social media (or even in all the blogs we read). Let's cut ourselves some slack and remember what people are usually posting are just the good things,  not all the things that cause self doubt, and cause us to criticize and beat ourselves up. Everyone has their own set of issues and their own brand of crazy. We just need to remember to own it and not worry about what everyone else thinks.

Did you ruin a cake? Go out with mismatched shoes? Was your dress stuck in your butt crack? (sorry Mom...I can just hear her saying "oh Lisa")  Did you come out of the bathroom and have a foot a toilet paper trailing behind you? Trust me, we've all had those moments. 

Own your crazy and know you are good enough just the way you are!
