Flirty Floral Dress

I've told y'all before that it's really windy where we live and that makes getting decent pictures a real challenge. Kent is going to have to take over the photographer role now that Katie is gone and I'm just not sure how that will go. She's goofy with me and makes me laugh and will also suggest "poses".

This is a great fall transition dress. The colors and floral print are fun and the ruffled bottom is sweet.

It's currently the front runner for the wedding we'll be attending in October, but I'm not "married" to it yet. HAHAHA!

These sandals are truly my favorite dressy sandals along with the hot pink ones just like them. They are amazingly comfortable and I'm all about a comfortable shoe, especially in a heel. The dark turquoise suede adds a fun pop of color.

I added one of my favorite Kendra Scott pendants. I love this necklace because of the mixed metal. I can wear both silver and gold with it making it super versatile. This day I was wearing the gold earrings that match.

Okay friends. What do we think of this one? It's cute and really comfortable and I'll be able to eat lots of yummy party food when wearing it. That's what counts, right?

Happy Wednesday!!

What a weekend!

Happy Eclipse Day!!!!

Since I'm sure you're just dying of curiosity as to what I've been up to here's a super quick pictorial recap...

We checked out Katie's dorm on Friday once we finally got to Nashville. (see this post for travel details.)

It has that "new house smell"😀

They have their own bathroom. So the shower curtain rod was obviously hung by a man. (apologies to any men reading this) It was hung at the top and since these are extra tall showers that means the shower curtain lacks about a foot at the bottom. What the heck? I'm going to buy a shower curtain rod and just use it.

Friday night we had a girls night out with Kelsey, Cassie, Katie, Rosalee  and then myself and Kim (Cassie's mom...my college roommate) Read the tale of us and our girls here.

My college roomie and bestie Kim

Her stuff being stored in our friends basement.

Ready for move in!

Making progress...

Katie's car arrived Saturday afternoon.

Bridal shower for Rachel (in white) on Sunday afternoon.

One of my BFF's...Dawn.
I'm staying with her for part of the week in Franklin, KY and then going back to Nashville.

This picture is taken through the lens of the eclipse glasses.↑↑↑

These were taken just holding up my camera without the glasses.

I was pretty much indifferent about the whole eclipse phenomenon and really didn't "get it"...

BUT...

NOW I DO!!!

It was really so cool. I'm so sad Kent didn't get to experience it and I wish I would have had the knowledge to figure out the best way to photograph it. Watching it progress was amazing and sitting in the dark and what felt like night at 2:00 in the afternoon was absolutely crazy. The crickets were chirping and the temperature dropped and I felt it was time to go to bed.

Were you in a good area to view it? What did you think?

Friday Favorites #71

Happy Friday my friends!!! Okay, you are going to want to read this one once you get to the bottom. I promise, you WON'T believe it!

But first let's find out what made me chuckle and happy this week and talk about Friday Favorites.

This isn't so much me, but it's definitely something I could hear Katie saying...that girl is something else.😂

I felt pretty good when I realized my shoes, socks and weights were all color coordinated.
#overachiever

Bath and Body Works had a buy 3 get 3 offer the other day and I stocked up on some things. I tried this clay body scrub and love it. It exfoliates and lathers. I used it on my dry elbows and legs and they felt so much smoother when I got out of the shower.

This falls under the category of being able to laugh at yourself. Keepin' it real here friends. When Katie asked if I wanted her tiara I was like, "YES!"...here's her Snapchat.

So let me bring you up to date on our travels. Katie and I got to the airport yesterday at 11:00 for a 12:40 flight. It was already delayed when we got to the airport but they said they were going to hold the connection for us (and some others). Well it kept getting delayed to the point they would no longer be able to hold the connection so they pulled all of us from that flight and had to reroute us. Getting into Nashville right now is a challenge because all the flights are booked due to the eclipse. If we wanted to get there before Saturday our only choice was to take a flight to Las Vegas last night and then to Chicago. We got to Chicago around 1:00 am and our flight to Nashville leaves at 5:35. Seriously?!?! Can you even believe this? So here we sit at 1:31 in the morning. Katie's watching Gilmore Girls and I'm blogging. And our new friend "Flossy" is jumping around like an endless ball of energy.

Have you ever heard kids singing "this is the song that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friend"? Well that's our them song but insert the word day for song.

Meet little Miss Flossy. I gave her gum on the first flight and so when we got off the second one she asked for more.😂 I traded her gum for a picture. She's the cutest little ball of spunk you'll ever meet.

#currentsituation

So there you have it. I bet you're thinking you never want to travel with me because I must have the worst luck ever. We've never had issues like this before and I'm going to believe the return trip will go much smoother.

Have a great weekend y'all and cross your fingers that by the time you are reading this we are at least on our way to Nashville for the last leg of this trip if not already there.

Ladies Who Link - Back to School

Hey and happy Thursday. Sadly (for me) the day is finally here. The day Katie and I leave for her to go back to school. While she was originally supposed to study abroad in Florence, Italy, that changed about a month ago and now she's staying on campus and honestly, I'm not at all sad about that. I'm happy to know she'll be in Nashville and not gallivanting all over Europe. This mama does not have a gypsy soul or adventurous spirit. She's a home body and likes to have her birdies at least on the same continent if they aren't in the nest. I know, I know, I'm a real buzz kill.😜
#sorrynotsorry

It's the 3rd Thursday of the month which means it's time for our Ladies Who Link Party with my friends Allie from A Gal Named AlTrina & Sara from Mom's Coffee Date,  Tara from Mommy In A Nutshell and Holly from Pink Lady. This month we are sharing our back to school prep. Little did we know at the time the prompts were planned that a lot of the link ups this month would be sharing the same topic. Oh well, no worries. Let's get to it and be sure to share you back to school prep with us and link up at the bottom of this post.

Back to school with college age kids looks a lot different than little kids. You can check out what putting a kid in college looks like here and here

Tuesday night we finally got Katie's car picked up to go to Nashville. We choose to ship it on a car carrier instead of driving it 2300 miles. By the time you do the math and factor gas, food, lodging, vacation time and a good 4 days of driving, it's about as cheap to ship it as drive it. We did the same thing with Benny's. We ship them out to Nashville with no intention of them coming back to California. That sounds sad, but it's really not. They love Nashville and both want to set down roots there. The best part is that when Kent retires, Nashville is where we intend to land.

These big trucks can't navigate all the trees that line the long road in our neighborhood so at 9:30 we headed out of the neighborhood to a larger street to meet the truck and driver. If you follow me on Instagram (which, why wouldn't you?😉) then maybe you saw all of this on my story.

Katie and I spent yesterday getting things ready and packing. I'm happy to report my giant suitcase was actually packed before I climbed in the bed last night.

So while I no longer have lots of advice to share for mama's of little's I can share some breakfast ideas.
I loved making breakfast for the kids when they were in school. Here are a couple things I would make for Katie in high school if you are looking for some new ideas.

Peanut butter, Nutella and banana waffle sandwich (with a side of gummy vitamins)

Oatmeal with starwberries, pecans and mini-chocolate chips

Heart shaped toast with Nutella and sliced strawberries. ( I think this was for Valentine's Day❤️)

YES....EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH CHOCOLATE!

If your kids started back to school this week I hope it's gone smoothly. If you are among those still soaking up the last few days/weeks of summer then I hope you are relaxing and enjoying every single minute.

Time for me to do a quick workout, shower and head for the airport.

Wish us luck...hopefully we won't have a repeat of the travel nightmares from last weekend.
Don't forget to scroll to the bottom and add your link.
