Let's Talk - Entertainment

First days of fall???
Well here in our part of California the temperatures have been in the high 90's and it feels nothing like fall.
#notthatImcomplaining

Are you a reader? Well as I mentioned in a previous post (here), I'm really not. Let me clarify. I'm not really a book reader.

For today's Let's Talk linkup hosted by  Andrea and Erika, we're talking about books, movies, magazines, and blogs we love. What a great way to find new ideas of things to read or watch. Word of mouth is one of the best ways I can think of to get a good recommendation. I mean after all, when you are looking for a new doctor, dentist, hair stylist, nail salon, etc... wouldn't you prefer to find one that someone you know has actually been to and liked rather than just taking a stab in the dark?
#ifthatdoesntworktheresalwaysyelp

It only makes since to find out what your friends like to read and then give them a try too.

My guilty pleasure for years and years has been People magazine.
#dontjudge

I'm not really one to read every. single. page, but I do love flipping through and stopping when I find something that interests me.

Movies...

Well let's see. I talked about my favorite movies (here) in a STRANDED post. Last night Kent and I went to the movies...not something we do all that often, but I had been gifted movie tickets for referring people to our dentist (there's that word of mouth thing again)

We went to see SULLY.

1 - GREAT MOVIE
2 - VERY INTENSE
3 - CLEAN
(as I was writing this it struck me that was very little "language" in this movie)

Now, on a side note. Have you been to a theater with "recliners" yet? Have mercy! I'm pretty much ruined for all normal theaters now. This is THE WAY TO GO!!! So much more comfortable. The theater that offers this is a little ways from our house and you have to reserve your seats ahead of time, but OH. MY. WORD. I loved being able to curl up in my chair just like I would at home and watch this movie. I have nothing but love for this way of watching a movie.

Hallelujah fall television shows have finally started back up.
#whoswithme

We've watched the pilots for a couple of new series and here's what we think so far...

Chesapeake Shores

Technically this one came on in July, but we just started watching it a couple of weeks ago (and it's already almost done for this season. Stop it!)

We like it...Kent was a little afraid he'd need to turn in his man card, but he's being a sport and watching it with me.
#thankyou

This is Us

We watched the first episode last week and this is another one he wasn't too pumped to watch, but so far so good.

The Good Place

I had really high hopes for this one and I'm going to try to hang in there a few more episodes. You know how sometimes with new shows it takes a little while for them to get leveled out and you to get into them? I'm hopeful that'll be the case here (but not very confident). We both thought it has a kind of "Willy Wonka" feel.
#notmyfavorite

The Designated Survivor

This is the one Kent was most excited about. The first episode had a very 9-11 feel and we'll have to see where it goes from here. (I can already tell you I don't like the General in it #bully) The glasses Kiefer Sutherland's character are wearing in it also confuse me. That may sound weird, but every time they show him, he looks so 1950's I get confused. LOL

Now let's talk about the blogs I like to read.
Obviously I must like them since I have one. Reading other blogs is what inspired me to start one in the first place. I don't know if you feel this way when you read them, but you start getting to know the person and her life and you feel like she's a friend you never get to see.
#weirdfeeling

This is a list of some of the ones I like to read, but not exclusively. I find new ones to check out all the time, especially through link ups just like this. I only wish there were more hours in the day to read more of them. I typically get to check them out when I'm on my elliptical and it sure helps the time to go by faster when I have a fun blog to read.

If you have a blog I should check out, leave it in the comments.
If you have a television show you think we might like based on my viewing list, leave that too. We are always looking for new shows, especially since it seems once we get hooked a show gets cancelled.

I've only participated in this link up a couple of times but if you've missed any of the previous "let's talk" posts, you can find them by clicking the links below.

Happy Monday friends!!!

Friday Favorites - A little bit of everything

Happy Friday and Happy Fall my friends!!!
I can hardly believe summer is now officially over. Sniff, sniff!!!
Yes, I do love all things pumpkin and getting to change up my wardrobe, but man o' man, I just really love summer!!!

Since it's Friday you know that means it's time for Friday Favorites and talking about what we loved this week, so I'm joining ErikaNarci, and Andrea in their weekly link up.

ONE

First up this week, we celebrated Kent's birthday. I talked all about him in this post in case you missed it on Tuesday.

We went to his favorite BBQ place for dinner and then came home and I had made an old favorite.

Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake

Sooooo YUMMMMMY!!!!

TWO

I received a Snapchat from a friend of mine this week. She has little kids and they are a HOOT!!! She sent this to me and I literally LAUGHED OUT LOUD!!!

Priceless!!!

It was followed later in the day by this...

Look at that sweet face! What a cutie pie!

THREE

My friend Heidi's birthday was Sunday and she received an absolutely awesome birthday present. Her son Jesse (a senior in high school) dropped a song on iTunes that he wrote, sings and plays guitar on.
It's seriously good!!!

We are so incredibly proud of him. And oh' BTW...his brother is singing harmonies on it with him.

FOUR

In case you missed it earlier this week I did a post on my favorite accessories and how I came into my own in adding them to my wardrobe.

FIVE

I broke out my new booties that  I purchased during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and they didn't disappoint. Unfortunately mine are sold out except for in a few sizes, but I'm linking a very similar pair by the same maker.

SIX

We ordered a  new sofa about 8 weeks ago and it's being delivered tomorrow.
CAN'T WAIT!!!

I'm trying to change the overall feeling of our family room to a more neutral and lighter color scheme. I'll show you pictures next week.

SEVEN

There are 8 days left in the month and the phenomenal special that Rodan + Fields has been offering is still available. If you've been thinking about trying these products or this is the regimen you use and you haven't taken advantage of this offer yet, don't miss it. I absolutely love what these products have done for my skin and want everyone to experience it.

Try It On Tuesday - Thursday Edition

It's been a while since I've done a Try It On Tuesday post. I went to the mall this week and did some "trying it on" and planned to do this next week, but Nordstrom is offering Triple Points through Sunday for credit card holders and so I thought some of you might like to take advantage of that.

So before we start...remember this is dressing room lighting and I am in no way a professional (or semi-professional) model. This is just so you can see how these clothes look on a "regular woman". I'm 5' 2 1/2" tall which makes it hard to pull off some styles...as you'll see. ;)

This ribbed sweater has the sweetest ruffle detail on the bottom of the sleeves and at the hem. You can barely see it in this picture, but it's there and makes it a little more special than a regular ribbed sweater..

I seem to have a new obsession with plaid. I grabbed this shirt and it wasn't until I was putting it on that I noticed the adorable ruffled peplum on just the back. What a cute surprise. (unfortunately I can only find the link for the plus size, but lucky for anyone who falls in that category)

I'm still on the hunt for a cold shoulder top. This one is really soft, but also really see through...definitely need the cami. It comes in other colors and I think I'd have liked it better in a small instead of the x-small I have on.

Drape front cardi - on sale :)
So I can just hear Kent asking "How many of those jackets do you need????"
HEY...I like what I like and since I like to keep a jacket or sweater with me at all times (in spite of hot flashes) I like to have a variety.

This is a high low (front/back), but it's plenty long in the front to be a tunic. It's super soft and whispered "wear me with leggings and boots" in my ear.

YES...another open front cardi. Seriously soft and just look at that adorable peplum back. It's just as important to look cute from behind as the front.

You guessed it, I'm still looking for an off the shoulder top too. Can you say commitment issues? The one I just loved sold out in my size before I ordered it.
#sadface

Another blogger I read had tried this one on and if it hadn't been for seeing it on her I wouldn't have bothered. I don't love the material, but it looks cute on.
#heyyoucanthaveeverything

I love Pleione tops and so I had to try this one. It'd be great this time of year for transitioning. Throw on a jean jacket or utility jacket and you're good to go, but when you take off your jacket it's a little cuter than a regular tee.

Okay, so this one I just kinda grabbed and thought...ehhh. Well I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it on. (if only I'd been wearing a black cami)

This is the same basic blouse but a thicker material. It's the one I thought I'd really like, but the print was a bit busy for me. It's really comfy though and looks cute with jeans or could be put with slacks for work.

LOVED this little sweater. It's soft, comfy, roomy...all good things. I have on a plum pair of NYDJ jeans that were really comfy as well. I wish you could tell more about the color because it's really pretty.

I need to be either a little taller or a little shorter. Regular's are just a smidge too long and petite's are always a smidge too short.
#shortgirlprobs

This dress was adorable and if I had the legs for it, I would have totally brought it home with me. It was not something I would have thought to try on, but the girl helping me brought it and a couple of others and they were all so dang cute. (obviously you wouldn't be lazy like me...you'd take the cami off)

This one was an x-small and I was in it like a sausage (keepin' it real), but I think a small would have been perfect!

The fabric was nice and thick with just a little stretch.

Again, I'd have never thought to try this on for myself. I love Free People clothing and this dress is adorable with a real retro-70's vibe.  I think I could put black tights with it and pull it off. So cute.

LOVED this one too!!! I'd put it with black leggings and boots or booties. It is seriously a miracle I didn't walk out of the store with all three of these dresses.
#incredibleselfcontrol

So the whole reason she brought me these dresses was to try under this sweater.

I'm going to be totally honest...this look for me...not so much.
First off, the sweater was a small and I think it ran really big...and x-small would have probably helped the look. I also think it's just too much for my frame. A taller person would probably look great in it and should definitely go for it.

It's got a lot of versatility on the right person. That person just doesn't happen to be me.

On my way out of this department I stopped by the jewelry and tried on these pieces I've been eyeing from BaubleBar.

A hand model I am not...how'd I get old lady hands????

I didn't hit the shoe department, but here are a few pairs that I'd love to try.

So there ya' go friends. A little of this and a little of that.
How do you like these posts? Are they helpful? Do I look like a fool?
Please oh please, tell me what you think and I'll be brave when you're honest.

Take advantage of Nordstrom's Triple Points this week and earn yourself some free spending money

Come back Tuesday for a regular "Try It On Tuesday" because I hit Loft while I was out at the mall too. :)
