Weekend Wrap Up - Empty Nesters

Happy Monday and happy 3rd day of April. So happy you are here, both of you!

Did you have a good weekend? We had a great weekend, starting Saturday morning. I mean there was nothing wrong with Friday, but Saturday we had a full day.

Kent needed a few yard supplies so we ran down to Lowe's and saw this on our way...
A field full of goats. Like 100's of goats. We'd seen them earlier in the week in another field on the same road. How on Earth you get that many goats in a field on a major road is beyond me. To make it even more strange in a field on the other side of the same road next to the Lowe's parking lot was this...

ANOTHER field of goats. Kent noticed the first field were all males and this field were all females.

People were pulling in the parking lot and getting out of their cars to look at them.

They didn't make a peep and were incredibly tame.

We popped in Lowe's to grab the things we needed.

I Love all the beautiful colors that come with fresh spring flowers.

And I have developed such a love for succulents.

They are so perfect they look artificial and come in such a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. I'm thinking I should give them a try and see if I can keep them alive. I think they are very low maintenance so maybe they'd be able to survive the "plant curse" that seems to accompany house plants at our house.

If by some strange luck of the draw my kids are reading this today, which I highly doubt, I apologize for this next sentence. Kent said more than once on Saturday that the whole empty nest thing really wasn't so bad. LOL

We just come and go as we please. Eat whenever we want and do whatever we want. Saturday we finished up the things we were working on and I'd already bought tickets to go see Beauty and the Beast so we went to an early dinner, ran a couple of errand and then off the to movies. I'd bought the tickets for one of those theaters with reclining chairs for seating and let me just be the first to say that we are totally spoiled. Once you watch a movie this way, you never want to go back slumming in a regular old theater.

If you haven't seen this movie...GO...Don't wait any longer. It's that good, especially if you are musical kind of person and/or watched the Disney version with your kids when they were little. You'll have all the sweet, warm, fuzzy feelings. The singing is fantastic and that was the worst part because I wanted to sing along but I really didn't want to have people throwing popcorn at me and yelling "boooo, get out of here". Emma Watson does such a great job so if you're a fan of hers you won't be disappointed. So to sum it up, GO. Don't wait any longer.

Sunday afternoon I made another batch of bran muffins. I've been working on this recipe that a friend/next door neighbor in Richmond gave me eons ago. (Thanks Brandi) I'm doing some substituting to add protein and reduce the calories. I'm getting close and as soon as I get it where I want it, I can't wait to share it with you.

I did some online shoe shopping at Target Sunday afternoon. This week they are having BOGO (Buy one, get one 1/2 off) on shoes, so you might want to check it out. They are hitting out of the park this spring with their shoe selection.

I tried to order these darling hot pink heels but they were sold out of my size. They also come in a tan that are really cute.

And update on the new pair I bought last week.

I wore these Sunday. They were really comfortable and I was really tall. Several people commented at church on how tall I was. FYI...I prefer being short. It's weird to be tall after spending your entire life being short.

So today the countdown begins. We leave Thursday to go see the kids. Can you say EXCITED?!?!?!

Happy Monday friends!

Lisa

  1. I'm dying! You and I had the exact opposite reviews of Beauty and the Beast! But, I did take advantage of the Target sale last night and finally am getting my black and tan sandals and then ordered some laser cut nude flats. Fingers crossed that they're awesome in person! I get to see my goat in less than 2 weeks! I'm so excited- she's the cutest thing on the planet and Robert wants to buy a pygmy goat for the backyard to be our dog's BFF. Oh my! Have a great Monday!

    1. So you didn't like it? Well that just goes to show that everyone is different.😉 Can't wait to see the shoes you ordered. I'm so bummed about the pink ones I wanted. I'm going to watch and see if they restock 7's. We've go friends who moved to Oregon last year and have a lot of land. They've gotten a bunch of pygmy goats and they are adorable. Two of the females had babies and her kids (maybe I should say children😂) put jammies on them. LOL Happy Monday to you too!!!

  2. I have succulents outside and love them. I should look at getting a few for inside. They are very low maintenance. I was wanting to see Beauty and the Beast when we were out of town this weekend, but the kids chose The Boss Baby instead. :( And I'm sure being an Empty Nester has all sorts of perks... probably bittersweet?!

    1. Maybe Beauty and the Beast can be a date night. ;) (although Allie didn't care for it at all, so funny the difference in our reviews) The empty nester life definitely has its perks, but bittersweet is a great description. Have a great week Jenny!!!

  3. "It's weird being tall when you've spent your whole life being short." That totally cracked me up! And I can so sympathize. I'm 5'4 and sometimes when I put heels on, it just doesn't feel right. I saw a throwback picture over the weekend of some yo-yo heels! Remember those?! My mom had a pair, but nearly broke her neck in them and wouldn't wear them anymore. I remember wearing them around the house back in the '70's. Ha!

  4. I'm so excited for you to go see the kiddos!! We just said the start of the empty nester thing is ok as we can do trips like we just did with no worrues(the youngest is on Spring Break in Florida) so we hopped to Vegas but oh so bittersweet! And the reclining theater has our heart now too!! Love your "tall" sandals!! Hope your week is off to a great start!!

    1. Thanks Andrea! The empty nest will be little less "bitter" and a little more "sweet" once they are off the payroll😉 Hahaha. Welcome home!

  5. Thanks for the tip on the shoe sale at Target! There are a few I've had my eye on. They really brought out some cute styles this spring. It sounds like y'all had a wonderful weekend. It must be so different to be empty nesters now! And we all loved Beauty and the Beast too!

    1. It is different, but not nearly as bad as we thought it would be😉
      Happy Monday!

  6. What a strange sight of all those goats. Did you ever find out why they were in those fields all the sudden? And why they would separate them by male/female? I would be one of the cars pulled over. So strange.

    1. No, we haven't figured it out. Seems like if it's for "mowing" it would just be easier to mow. My husbands boss speculated today that it could be the zoning and taxes and blah, blah, blah...LOL. They were still there today, but moved to a different part of the field. CRAZY!

  7. Glad to know that you actually use one of my recipes as I always felt I lived between Martha Stewart and Martha Stewart junior with you and Cindi! Send me the lighter version when you get it perfected... I still looovvveee those muffins! I don't make them that often but sure enjoy them when I do. My go to recipe that I got from you is the chex mix one with the white chocolate coating on it. I use the specialty colored M&Ms to fit the season (Easter, Valentines, etc.) or for tailgates using orange and maroon. Wish you weren't so far away!

    1. I LOVE your blogger name!!! I was like "who is this?". You are so funny! I also got your Penne a'la Vodka recipe from Cindi and love it. You are a great cook. I'll share the recipe soon. Glad you still like the Chex Mix recipe. I wish I wasn't so far away too ;) XOXO
